Studying Turkish at the University of Virginia
UVa students can study (and even complete their College Language Requirement in) Turkish. While MESALC does not currently offer in-person courses for Turkish, we do participate in the Consortium for Less-Commonly Taught Languages, which allows UVa students to enroll in remotely-taught Turkish courses from beginning to advanced levels.
We currently offer the following Turkish language courses:
- Turkish 1010-1020 (Beginning Turkish I and II)
- Turkish 2010-2020 (Intermediate Turkish I and II)
- Turkish 3010,Turkish Popular Culture (Advanced Turkish I)
- Turkish 3020,The Turkish Table (Advanced Turkish II)
The courses are taught in-person at Duke University by Professor Didem Havlioglu through their Middle East Studies Center.
Students interested in using Turkish to satisfy their Language Requirement should check SIS listings, consult with the UVa liaison for Turkish language studies, and plan their schedules carefully because Beginning Turkish classes are not currently offered every year.
